Eyes and Ears: Shaking Conditions
Eyes and Ears is a weekly reflection on music, culture and media that we have been consuming. An archive tuning into meaning.
I went to Manchester to see Sammy Virji at Warehouse project and it was no doubt the best event I have been to in a long time. All the sets were amazing. Having never been to WHP, I was pleasantly surprised. There was so much space, all the lighting set-ups were super engaging and I would say majority of the people there were actually dancing.
Anyways, that is what I have been up, now let’s get into what I have been listening to.
Music: Ears
In the days leading up to the event, I had been listening to mostly electronic music. Dance tracks. Things to get me in the mood. I wouldn’t say I had fallen out of love with electronic music, but it did feel like we were on a bit of a break. This track is definitely what sparked that connection again.
Jawnino got a mention last week, and he’s getting another this week. Dance the fourth off this EP has been my most played track over the last few days. Those 3 minutes aren’t enough for me. I just keep going back to it. The whole EP is great and the features work perfectly. Choongtingz ft Kibo x Renz… need I say more.
I am not sure where I found this one, but I have been loving it. I think the vocals are what keep me returning to this. Especially the mixing of the them, coming in and out of that click-y instrumental.
I cannot not mention my favourite track of the weekend. Silva Bumpa has been a highlight for me this year. I love hearing his tracks and instantly being able to recognise that it’s his own production. He has such style, and it isn’t style over substance and he mixes and selects better than majority of the people I see.
Huge, huge, huge fan of Skream. Even while I haven’t been listening to much electronic music, I have been listening to this track. It just makes me want to get up and move. It is so bright, and I live for the vocals on this. Can’t wait to drive around in the new GTA and hear this on the radio.
Crying in H Mart: Eyes
I picked up this book because the cover was orange and it matches the colour scheme in my room. I had no idea that the author was the vocalist from Japanese Breakfast. One of my favourite type of book to read is a memoir. Although I rarely read them, I cannot name one that I have read and not liked.
This book made me cry a few times. Several times. Even after I had read it. And for different reasons. One being that, the passing of her mother had happened similarly to a friend of mine. Reading about death always makes me so suddenly aware of life. This was a beautiful memoir and I would highly recommend.
That is all from me this week. - Common
